Anyone that knows me knows I’m a huge podcast fan.
My love affair with podcasts started a few years ago with the infamous Serial podcast (the first season) and I’ve been hooked ever since. But once I started working from home (and essentially spend most of my days alone in silence lol) my podcast obsession really turned up a notch. I love listening to them while I workout, get ready, while I cook/throw meals together, and sometimes also while I’m working.
Whenever I discover a new podcast I’m loving, I usually chat about it on instagram, but I thought it would be awesome to pull together all of my favorites and put them into one place for you guys! Some podcasts I love are just a single series and I’ve already finished them, and others are ongoing favorites that have new uploads all the time – I will include both in this post!
Also, as far as what I like…I LOVE true crime, always have. So a lot of the podcasts I listen to are true crime related. But I also have some other favorites that are for entertainment, education, or just for inspiration!
Podcasts I’ve Finished & Loved:
- Serial
- The pod that started it all! In this podcast, reporter Sarah Koenig explores the seemingly open-and-shut case of the murder of Hay Min Lee, and whether or not her high school boyfriend, Adnan Syed, who was convicted of the crime, is truly guilty. Her store telling is top knotch & voice is so soothing to listen to. It is a must listen!
- Up and Vanished
- This one explores the cold case of the murder of Tara Grinstead in Ocilla, Georgia. The case had been cold for 10 years…but the podcast may or may not have kicked up enough dirt to reveal the murderer. Buy you’ll just have to listen to find out!
- Dirty John
- This one is SO good. It came out recently and hung out at #1 on the charts for a while. It tells the story of John Meehan, a genius conman who was able to swindle a prominent interior designer, Debra Newell, in Southern California. Christopher Goffard, the narrator, tells the story of their disastrous relationship from beginning to you-never-saw-that-coming end. Oh yeah, and this is a TRUE story!
- S-Town
- This podcast is honestly a bit strange and a little dark but nonetheless very intriguing and worth a listen. It starts with a man from a small town in Alabama calling up a reporter asking him to come and investigate who he believes is a murderer that got away with it. The podcast starts here, but ends up taking up a whole new storyline entirely.
- Missing Richard Simmons
- Truly the greatest mystery of 2017, if you ask me lol. A man who used to frequent one of Richard’s fitness classes decides to take a deep dive and get to the bottom of what really happened to Richard Simmons. This one is short & sweet, very mysterious, and totally worth a listen.
Ongoing Podcasts I Love – True Crime:
- My Favorite Murder
- This is one of my TOP favs, and I never miss an episode. Karen & Georgia are the hosts, they discuss two different murder cases each episode, but somehow make very dark subjects entertaining (in a respectful way) as well as even a little uplifting? They are unicorns, and if you like true crime and/or comedy, this one cannot be missed! They also put out a second episode every week (a ‘minisode’ to be exact) where they read listener emails & tell hometown murder stories, first responder stories, and just creepy/fascinating stories in general.
- Wine & Crime
- Another favorite of mine! This podcast gives my My Favorite Murder vibes, but is special in it’s own way. It’s hosted by three Minnesota natives – Kenyan, Lucy, and Amanda – and in each episode they cover different murder cases within a certain topic, but that’s not all! Each episode they feature a different wine (to go along with the episode’s theme) and Amanda gives an thorough description of each wine – it’s a really fun twist!
- Truth & Justice
- I originally started listening to this one as it started as a spin-off from Serial (originally called Serial Dynasty). Bob takes a hard look at all of the evidence surrounding the Adnan Syed case, and whether or not he should have been convicted. The podcast gained a lot of popularity, so Bob continued on to cover other well-known cases such as Kenny Snow and the West Memphis 3.
- Real Crime Profile
- This one is hosted by Jim Clementi, Laura Richards, and Lisa Zambetti and they analyze different cases, all from the standpoint of criminal profiling. This podcast is very interesting and I’ve actually learned a lot from it! My favorite episodes are probably when they analyzed & discussed the popular Netflix originals 13 Reasons Why and Making a Murderer.
- The Vanished
- This podcasts goes over different missing person’s cases, and all about their disappearance and what has happened in the aftermath.
- Someone Knows Something
- This is one I recently started listening to (it was recommended on MFM). They go over a few different cases in depth, but I recently started with the very first one, which goes over the mysterious disappearance of Adrien McNaughton.
- Cold Case Files
- From the same classic TV show, each podcast episodes details a different, unsolved cold case.
Ongoing Podcasts I Love – Entertainment:
- Juicy Scoop
- This podcast is my favorite – right up there with MFM. I listen to it every week when the new episodes drop on Tuesday & Thursday. Heather McDonald (stand up comedian, used to be on Chelsea Lately) hosts and she is hilarious. She covers all kinda of ‘juicy’ topics and she’s never afraid to ask her guests the questions no one else will. It’s always so entertaining and I look forward to it every week!
- The Bitch Bible
- I haven’t listened to this one in a while, but I always enjoyed it so I thought it was worth mentioning. Jackie Schimmel Haas hosts, and she is super funny in a very bitchy way lol. She gets straight to the point, always tells you exactly what she’s thinking, and gives her take on all things happening in pop culture, including reality TV.
- The Skinny Confidential Him & Her Podcast
- This is one I’m also not up-to-date on, but it is an awesome show. It’s hosted by Lauryn (blogger from The Skinny Confidential) and her husband Michael. They talk a ton about business, especially in the world of social media, and have some pretty great guests. You definitely get a lot of value & inspiration from their show, but it’s also fun to listen to at the same time!
- Hello Bump
- I love this one! One of my favorite bloggers, Angela Lanter, created a podcast with her husband Matt to document her entire pregnancy. They are super real & open about the whole journey, and certainly don’t shy away from telling you what really happens during pregnancy. It was so fun to listen along as they went through their pregnancy week-by-week, and I hear they will be continuing to podcast about their journey as new parents…in a new podcast, Hello Baby!
- Sleep With Me
- This is podcasts ROCKS if you like to listen to something while falling asleep. I don’t use this on a regular basis because I don’t have trouble falling asleep (thank you oils!) but I use this every. single. time. I travel. It’s a godsend! I’ve listened to it on probably every flight I’ve been on the last year and it puts me to sleep every time! The host’s voice just drones on and it’s so boring lol but absolutely perfect for putting you to sleep 🙂 Love it!
Ongoing Podcasts I Love – Education:
- Nourishing Women Podcast
- I LOVE this one! I don’t listen to very many health/nutrition podcasts, mainly because that is my job & I typically like to listen to podcasts as an escape or for entertainment if that makes sense. But I absolutely love this one. It’s hosted by two RDs (Meg & Victoria) and they talk so much about intuitive eating, body acceptance, as well as traditional foods (aka how our grandmother’s & great grandmother’s used to eat). So so interesting & they’re super fun to listen to!
- The Dave Ramsey Show
- My favorite financial podcast (the only one I listen to lol). Dave is a no-nonsense financial guru that has helped hundreds of thousands of people get out of debt and create financial freedom for their families. Listening to his show has not only taught me SO much about finances, but it’s also incredibly motivating and really draws you out of the materialistic, shop-happy society we are all subject to these days (thank you social media). Whether you are financially savvy or not (I’m not) this is a MUST listen for everyone. Financial security is SO crucial and unfortunately the norm these days is to be deep in debt but still buy things with money we don’t have anyways. It’s no way to live! Listen to Dave and he will be sure to get you on the right track 😉
- Pregnancy Podcast
- Okay so it might sound weird that I listen to podcasts related to pregnancy (before you ask, no I’m not pregnant lol) but it’s actually not weird at all for me. I find pregnancy & early childhood so unbelievably fascinating (it was always my favorite nutrition topic to learn about back in school) so I just love learning all I can about it. I seriously can’t get enough! And also I know this knowledge will certainly come in handy in the future!
- Doing it at Home
- This is another pregnancy-related pod (well, more birth related, specifically) and one I recently just got into. It started out as a couple sharing about their journey of their first pregnancy, and their preparation to have a home birth, hence ‘doing it at home.’ Sarah & Matt (the hosts) have really candid discussions, feature lots of cool guests and other home birth stories, and are just very enjoyable to listen to. Going the more natural route when it comes to birth is something that I am definitely very interested in (for someday!) so it’s been so cool to hear all of the discussions that take place on this show, since (at least here in the US) it’s not something that gets a whole lot of exposure vs. birthing in a hospital with medical interventions, which is the norm these days.
That’s everything I can think of for now! I will definitely keep you guys posted as I come across new favorites! But please let me know in the comments – what are YOUR favorite podcasts?? I’m always looking for new ones to tune into!
