In this post, learn how to make your own DIY glow face serum – it’s one of my absolute must haves for natural skin care!
Ever since I got into essential oils, I have been obsessed with making DIY products, including skincare.
I’ve done posts on my DIY cleanser and DIY lash & brow serum, and today I’m going to share my DIY serum! This serum is so moisturizing and rich with skin supporting benefits, not to mention it is SO easy to throw together! I apply this both morning & night to my face, neck, and chest area after cleansing & before applying face lotion. I apply about 3 drops to my face, 4 to my neck, and 2-3 to my chest. Ever since I started using it, I’ve noticed a difference in how hydrated, dewy, and glowy my skin is – even in the dead of winter like it is now! Absolutely LOVE this stuff! And love even more that I can make it over & over again since I already have all the ingredients. Def saves me money in the long run 😉
DIY GLOW FACE SERUM RECIPE:
- 1 oz Rose hip oil (my go-to) or Jojoba oil or Argan oil
- Lavender EO
- Frankincense EO
- Patchouli EO
- Blue Tansy EO
- 1 oz dropper bottle (I love these gold ones)
- Add 10 drops lavender, 10 drops frankincense, 10 drops patchouli, and 5 drops blue tansy to bottle of rose hip oil.
- Shake gently to combine.
- Apply morning & night to face, neck, and chest, and get ready for beautiful glowing skin!
Benefits:
- Rose hip – rich in omega-3 & omega-6 fatty acids as well as anti-inflammatory compounds. Helps defend against signs of aging, scars, and both tightens and moisturizes skin
- Lavender – very soothing & hydrating and supports a healthy complexion
- Frank – some people like to call it their fountain of youth! Helps defend against wrinkles & fine lines
- Patchouli – supports chapped and aging skin, helps give skin that glow!
- Blue Tansy – full of skin-soothing & skin-cleansing properties, and can help to reduce the appearance of blemishes
Could you use something besides rose hip oil? Absolutely! My other favorite skin-loving carrier oils are jojoba and argan oil. Either of these would work great, I would just caution you against using coconut oil for this – coconut oil is fairly comedogenic (meaning likely to clog pores). Some people have zero issues using coconut oil on their face, while for others it can really break them out. I would just stay on the safe side and not experiment with it, that way you don’t waste any precious essential oils on something you can’t use!
Speaking of essential oils, you don’t have to use all of these to make a bomb face serum! These are just the ones I chose, but there are really no rules here. If you just have your starter kit, you can add just lavender & frank and it would still be so supportive for your skin! Other skin-loving oils you could try: Elemi, Manuka, Rose, Tea Tree (for breakouts), Geranium, and Sandalwood.
A note on quality:
As always, I think it’s really important to mention quality when it comes to essential oils. Not all essential oils are created equal (thanks to basically zero regulation on them) and if you’re going to be applying them to your skin, you want them to support it, not damage it in any way! There are also a lot of imitation oils out there that actually cannot be applied to skin – make sure you always check the label before applying any essential oil, especially to the delicate skin on your face! If you want to know why I personally choose Young Living oils, you can read about that here.
I have been using this serum for a few months now and I just absolutely love it. It’s like my very own little beauty elixir! It also just smells SO good and I truly look forward to using it everyday. It just makes my skin feel so so good!

Hello! Loving these oil recipes 🙂 I already made the lash serum and am excited to make this too! What size of the rosehip oil do you get – 1 or 4 oz? Thank you!

Can’t wait to make this! I’m going to buy some Blue Tansy for my next ER order. I might add Tea Tree because I have acne prone skin. I don’t have Rosehip oil though. Does Young Living sell it? I have Jojoba and Argan so those would probably work I would think.

Either of those would work great!! But I get my rose hip on Amazon 🙂

Hi Becca! Can’t wait to try this! But I was wondering what size bottle of rose hip oil do you use for the amount of essential oils used in this recipe? The link for the bottle of oil on Amazon has a one ounce size and a 4 oz size. Thanks for your time!
